Easy points for just attending class
Cons: Tons of homework
Boring class
Yes, Professor Chartkoff may teach one of the most boring lectures at MSU, but if you do the homework assignments and puzzlers then you will get a 4.0. He genuinely wants everyone to do well in the course and gives up to as much as 45% of your grade worth of extra credit. The lectures are super boring, but if you have a computer then you can just surf the web for two hours. Going to class is 5% of your grade so it's easy points by merely sitting there. He is a nice guy who is always understanding of students.
He is really nice, a genuine guy, but he drones on quite a bit. The only downer is that you have to go to class, because he takes attendance into your grade.
You don't need to read to pass the course and he offers a load of extra credit. There is only three exams...
Chartkoff, while he means well, is simply the most boring individual to set foot on this campus, if not this planet. The first 20 minutes of class are devoted to him reading a news article out loud--he actually reads the damn thing. Most of the class is asleep by this point, making his lecture all the more pointless.
He goes on for the remaining hour and a half by loosely following his terrible notes on the overhead. He's one of the hardest professors I've ever had in terms of ease of note taking. Hard to tell where he's going, what's important, and what the hell is going on.
He offers a 10 page study guide filled with terms you need to know for his midterms (there are 2 and a final). The guide doesn't include the terms meanings--just the actual terms. When you finally fill those out, the guide is actually about 20 pages.
You have to memorize atlas information for the exams, and know his news articles pretty well because he tests you on their content.
BUT, he offers bonus points at the beginning of class if you can answer his "puzzlers," and more bonus if you write a 10 page paper on an environmental issue.
It was the longest hour and fifty minutes ever conceived.
Schedule his class with 3-4 buddies. Send one to take notes each day and sign everyone in. Once the study guide is out, each person does the part for each day they were there and then combine everyone's answers into one. Then its just simple memorization. His tests are rediculously easy if you do the study guide and its possible to get 20% extra credit in his class
