Pros: Extra credit given throughout whole semester
Easy points for just attending class
Cons: Tons of homework
Boring class
Yes, Professor Chartkoff may teach one of the most boring lectures at MSU, but if you do the homework assignments and puzzlers then you will get a 4.0. He genuinely wants everyone to do well in the course and gives up to as much as 45% of your grade worth of extra credit. The lectures are super boring, but if you have a computer then you can just surf the web for two hours. Going to class is 5% of your grade so it's easy points by merely sitting there. He is a nice guy who is always understanding of students.

Chartkoff is an amazing professor and an extremely nice man. Definitely take the Honors 220 if you can. You do more writing, but the essays are really easy and as long as you discuss the topic you'll never get anything less than a 3.5. His tests for 220H are all essay, which makes them extremely easy. He is kind of a boring lecturer, definitely bring something to do, but overall one of my favorite professors yet.

Joey C. is a quality professor, and while his lectures are EXTREMELY boring, he takes the time to help you and is flexible with daily problems you may incur. He grades for attendance as well as in class discussion, so it is important that you do the assigned textbook reading and answer the homework questions he assigns before every class. He also has extra required readings in the class. They are articles from various magazines that he has picked out over the last 25-35 years for you to read. 95% of these readings are not necessary, as none of them are covered on the exams with the exception of one or two. An overall good guy, and I would reccomend his class to anyone who can bring a computer to class to dick around on while he teaches.

Chartkoff is a very nice and sweet man. He is very caring to his students grades and very helpful if you have any questions. Yes, he is pretty boring in lecture, although he tries to throw in a few a jokes. His tests are pretty easy. Make sure you read the text. You don't even need to go the lectures really as long as you read. Know the key terms given in each chapter, because he likes to throw random ones into the tests. He grades on a curve though, so it's pretty impossible to fail his class. He also gave us extra credit opportunities to help.

Took the class as an elective and loved it. Gets kinda boring and can doze off a lil but make sure u right down extra notes that r not on the overhead. He shows alot of pictures which r useful if ur a visual kind of person. He offers extra credit too which is nice. Also he offers 2 types of tests, written and multipule choice. took the written all 3 times and just by lookin at the multipule choice test the written is much easier. just definitions and 2 essays. gave him a 4.0 cuz thats wat i got

Dr. Chartkoff is an amazing man, he is so understanding and he is willing to actually help the students learn the material. His main focus is having the students understand his course, not just give them a grade. He is a wonderful guy and everyone should take at least one of his classes.

Dr. Chartkoff is such a nice guy! Yes, at times he goes off on long tangents, but he has some really interesting advice for anthropology majors. His class was really easy, as long as you put effort into it you get a 4.0. It consists of 4 presentations an 4 paper write-ups about your presentations. Not too hard... Plus there are no exams or real lectures.

The class is a breeze....but really BORING!
He is really nice, a genuine guy, but he drones on quite a bit. The only downer is that you have to go to class, because he takes attendance into your grade.
You don't need to read to pass the course and he offers a load of extra credit. There is only three exams...

Chartkoff is one of the most kind professors that you will ever meet. He goes completely out of his way to make sure his students are taken care of and know the material. It always cracked me up when he would show up to the exams with a whole box of stuff "just in case": kleenex, pencils, pens, cough drops, etc. He's one of my favorite profs and I really enjoyed his class.

This class makes any accounting course look like a lesbian porno.
Chartkoff, while he means well, is simply the most boring individual to set foot on this campus, if not this planet. The first 20 minutes of class are devoted to him reading a news article out loud--he actually reads the damn thing. Most of the class is asleep by this point, making his lecture all the more pointless.
He goes on for the remaining hour and a half by loosely following his terrible notes on the overhead. He's one of the hardest professors I've ever had in terms of ease of note taking. Hard to tell where he's going, what's important, and what the hell is going on.
He offers a 10 page study guide filled with terms you need to know for his midterms (there are 2 and a final). The guide doesn't include the terms meanings--just the actual terms. When you finally fill those out, the guide is actually about 20 pages.
You have to memorize atlas information for the exams, and know his news articles pretty well because he tests you on their content.
BUT, he offers bonus points at the beginning of class if you can answer his "puzzlers," and more bonus if you write a 10 page paper on an environmental issue.
It was the longest hour and fifty minutes ever conceived.

most caring prof ever! lectures can be boring - but thats typical of an old man's teaching style. exams are easy if you do the study guide. he also offers a lot of extra credit, so easy 4.0. class is gravy if you have any background in a geology or geography course

The lectures for his class are SO boring & impossible to write notes for. Unfortunatly he takes attendance....Word of wisdom, don't go to class, its a waste of time, just make sure that RIGHT when the 15 page study guides come out that you do them, and study them for like 5 days. If you know every little detail on that...you should do good. The material covered in this class is ridiculous!! My advice is try to get out, but if you can't...do the extra credit! Most boringest class I've taken here at MSU!!!!

Here's what you do:
Schedule his class with 3-4 buddies. Send one to take notes each day and sign everyone in. Once the study guide is out, each person does the part for each day they were there and then combine everyone's answers into one. Then its just simple memorization. His tests are rediculously easy if you do the study guide and its possible to get 20% extra credit in his class

Chartkoff is the nicest professor ever! He cares about teaching and goes to great lengths to try and make the students' first experiences with anthropology positive. He offers several extra credit options for students who aren't very good at tests and even allow each student to choose if they want an essay test or multiple choice. He holds lots of office hours during the week too. I would highly recommend this class.

I loved this guy. He was considerate, funny, and made class interesting, even though i'm not all that interested in ancient cultures. He does make you memorize some stupid figures, but he grades fairly and gives wonderful feedback. His voice is a little bit...NPR newscaster, i guess is a good way to put it, and if you have a morning class, it's easy to fall asleep to, but honestly, this guy's a great teacher, and highly recommended

Chartkoff is a good guy, his only problem is that his lectures are incredibly monotonous and tedious. He doesn't ever really seem to be rambling. It becomes a test of your note-taking abilities to figure out when he's digressing into uselss anecdote and when the information is pertinent. However, he is extremely compassionate and will never hesitate to give extra help-he basically whores out his TA, which is great for the student, but probably not for her. Also, he lets you choose between taking a 60-question multiple choice test or a 12 question "short answer" test. Take the short answer, you just have to give extremely general definitions for ten questions and write two basic essays. I took them each time, and while the class average for the multiple choice tests were in the 2.5 range, most people taking the essay test were getting 3.0-4.0. I got 4.0 on all of them. Good choice, if you can stand 80 minutes of boredom for a decent grade.

His lectures are extremely boring. I stayed awake through the whole thing maybe twice. That being said, he will once in a while whip out a random bit of dry humor that will make your day. He prepares you well for essay exams, giving you a sheet with 10 possible questions (of which 3 will be chosen, and then you choose 2). He is also very clear as to what he wants in a paper. If you're going for grades and overall instructor knowledge, Chartkoff is a good choice. If you're going for an interesting lecture, you would probably be wise to look elsewhere.

Chartkoff is a really good professor. I found his lectures to be extremely boring though. He is a very understanding guy. For his tests, he outlines exactly what you need to know, so as long as you go through that, you're golden. Gives extra credit options. I'd recommend him...just not too early in the morning.

Dr. Chartkoff is an awesome professor! For those that have to take or are thinking about taking ANP 202 I highly recommend that you take this course with Chartkoff. He is very, kind and very, understanding. If you apply yourself and still don't seem to be grasping the material LET HIM KNOW he will try and find a way to help you understand the material so that you can succeed in the course. Awesome professor. And I had a great T.A. as well Marjie was great....In my whole 4 years of college I have never had a professor that was as humane as him. 4.0 Rating!!
